Civil Process and Records

Maintaining records and providing civil process service is a major part of our office’s responsibility. We are able to provide you with reports and provide civil process service by request; however there are guidelines we must meet.

Accident Reports:

There is a $6 fee for each accident record copy requested from the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office. Please submit this fee with your request. Please note there will be additional fees for any CDs, DVDs or photographs.

You will need your driver’s license number, vehicle identification number (VIN)  or social security number, and insurance information.

Incident Reports:

There is a fee for incident reports requested from the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.  You will have to contact the office for fees as the charges will have to be calculated ($0.25 per page, plus postage).  Please note there will be additional fees for any CDs, DVDs or photographs.  Depending on the report some redaction’s may have to be done to protect personal information.  You will need the date(s) of the incident, persons involved, location.

Civil Process:

The Washburn County Sheriff’s Office will make every effort possible to ensure your papers are delivered in a timely fashion. You can assist us in this by providing us with the papers a reasonable amount of time before the requested delivery date.

  • We accept faxed copies of domestic abuse and harassment restraining orders.
  • We do not give legal advice.
  • Prepayment for process service is required.
  • $75 fee per defendant and/or respondent served or attempted to serve.
  • Please be sure the address provided is in Washburn County
  • Physical address for defendant/respondent must be provided; we cannot provide service to P.O. Boxes
  • Our office will not forward returns to the clerk of court unless for a Washburn County case.

When you request a paper service please include the following in your request:

  • If you require returns; if so please include a self-addressed stamped envelope
  • One copy for each person to be served and copy of 1st page of paper for return.
  • Costs (All Process Service papers require prepayment)
